Potatoes and Gravy....mm.mmm GOOD!

My husband just called me to tell me this cute story:

He, his dad and Joshua went into town this morning to pay the taxes on one of our vehicles. Well, on the way back, his dad wanted to stop at the local cafe and pick up some lunch and take back to our house.

Joshua ate some sweet potatoes and drank part of his juice. In the meantime, my husband and his dad are getting ready to eat their food. My husband had gotten the sausage dog and chips, etc. while his dad had gotten country fried steak with french fries and gravy. This local cafe is known for some good home cookin' now, folks! Made.from.scratch! So the french fries looked like they had just been cut off the potatoe and the gravy was freshly made. Not too thick and not too thin!

Joshua had finished his lunch, and they had gotten him out of the highchair to run around.

Joshua ran to where his "PaPa" was, ran back to the table and grabbed up his "poon" (spoon). He took it to his PaPa and held it up for him and announced "Poon!" He held up his arms for his PaPa to take him.

See now, Joshua had finished his lunch, BUT if someone else is still eating, he wants what THEY are having too!

Anyway, Joshua sat there looking at his PaPa's plate and looking up at PaPa.

PaPa couldn't stand it anymore! He took one of the fries and dunked it in the gravy. He held it with his fingers up to a point to control how much Joshua bit off at one time.

One taste of that potato and gravy and he looks up and says "mm.MMM...GOOD!!" After a few more potatoes and a few more "mm.mmm.good, good GOOD!", PaPa had to feel of Joshua's stomach to see how full he was. Because Joshua HAS NO STOPPING POINT.

Anyway, Joshua finished and is now happy as a clam! Running around with a silly grin on his face saying "fench fie, fench fie! Fie, fie!" His little tummy is full of fies and gravy!

Fench fies and gravy are not things that he usually eats, but every now and then, it don't hurt. He eats fish, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, broccoli/mac/cheese casserole and many other healthy type foods. We try hard to feed him healthy stuff!

But some "times" call for certain things: Fies and gravy!

He Liked Them Sooo Much That............

he fed himself! Those Gerber Lil Crunchie things...... He took one yesterday and plopped it in his mouth. Something he's not shown an interest in doing until now! We'll work on the other food now! I've never pushed him to feed himself because I knew eventually he'd do it. And yesterday, yes. he. did!!

This morning, I got my little guy up. I got his favorite video set up (Little Einstein's World of Animals - or something like that), and let him ease into his day. Everytime he sees the white background, he looks up at me and gives me the biggest smile because he knows the really colorful catapillar is going to crawl across the screen and then his animals are coming on! While his dad and I were folding sheets this morning, Joshua decided to have some fun. It's hard for me to fold up those cottonpickin sheets all by myself. You know how the fitted sheets have elastic? In our house, it takes 2 people to fold those things. Anyway, while we had the sheet up in the air folding it, Joshua decides to run through the sheet with it flopping on his little head! He came out the other side laughing! Normally folding sheets is not my favorite thing, but with Joshua playing, I could've done it all day! It's amazing how a child can make certain dreaded tasks more fun!

And we have a winner!!

We have finally found a toddler snack that my 14 mo just LOVES.......almost as much as his milk. While I was at WalMart yesterday, I saw a lady in the aisle giving out samples. I actually tried one first....it's like a puffy cheese puff, not the real thin ones, and dissolves really fast, but gives him enough time to chew and have fun with the crunch! It's a healthy snack from Gerbers:

"Gerbers Graduates for Toddlers, Lil Crunchies, baked corn snack, mild cheddar. It's made with 100% while grain corn with 30% less sodium than leading cheese snacks!"

When I got one out for him to try, he was a little skeptical. But after he got that first bite in him, he shook everytime I got one out! He was SO excited!! I didn't think I'd ever see him like something as much as he loves milk.

I only gave him a very few, then I had to hide the can. Well, I thought it was hid....he found it, tried to get the lid off, and then brought it TO me!

Looks like this little can will be a permanent member of my family!!

Ma'am?

I've been noticing something interesting lately. And I'm trying to figure out how to take this....... But uh....and I'm trying to figure out how to say this. But here's the scenario: I go through the drive-thru at Hardees and the little lady at the window tells me how much my #1 Combo is. I hand her my card and she returns it. I ask her some odd question and she says "Yes, Ma'am." Then I ask her another question and it's "Yes, Ma'am." That happened today. Well, I've noticed that ALOT of times people are replying "Yes, Ma'am, No Ma'am." To me. My new status in life. It's now ma'am. Hey, don't get me wrong. I say Yes, Ma'am and No Ma'am, but for some reason it seems different when people say that to me. Just don't seem quiiitte right! I think about saying, "You don't have to call me Ma'am. I'm not that much older than you." Really, I'm not. I want to tell them I haven't been out of highschool that long. Oh maybe......uh........17 yrs.....hmmm. But I just got out of college......ummmm.......13 yrs ago. And it hasn't been that long since I got my first "professional" job. Um.....14 yrs ago? Uh-oh.......... And I'm still there...............at the same place....... Oh, well. I just shot my own explanation. Yes, ma'am, I did.........................

Milk!! It does the body good!

It's been a year now, and Joshua can switch to regular milk! While it's all good, it's a teeny bit sad just because he's growing up so quickly. But he's growing well and very healthy! A good thing! This past Friday, Feb 23, 2007, my husband tried him on the regular milk and he gulped it down like he knew no difference in the regular milk and the formula! Wow!

I tried him on some "yobaby." He scrunched up his face. He didn't take to it. I'll try again later. If he still doesn't like it, I guess I'll be eating it! I also tried the biter biscuits. He actually did pretty well with them. It can be a bit messy, but that's ok. He's learning!!
